With all the planning you’re doing right now, it’s hard to imagine there’s any detail you haven’t thought of, but trust us, there are certain to-dos that somehow never make it to the list. Here are the top ones we hear about all the time.
- Making post-wedding plans: Decide what you’re doing immediately after your wedding, whether it’s a late-night spot, booking a room elsewhere for privacy, or staying at the guest hotel.
- Bringing your overnight bag: Pick someone to drop your bag at the hotel before the ceremony, or ask a bridesmaid to be responsible for it, or keep it in the car/limo boot.
- Picking someone to take your things home after the reception: Choose a person to take gifts, mementos (like the cake topper, guest book), and any leftover food, booze, or cake. Also designate someone to take your gown home if you change out of it.
- Deciding where everything goes: Figure out where programs, escort cards, menus, and favors (bomboniere) will be placed. Give clear instructions to the person setting these out.
- Decorating the other areas: Put a small extra effort into decorating areas like the bathrooms and cocktail bar, for example, with a few candles.
- Buying gifts for the wedding party: Don’t forget to get gifts for everyone who plays a role in your day, including parents and future in-laws.
- Choosing how to gather the gifts: Designate a person to collect envelopes and have them by your side with a large bag when greeting guests. If using a wishing well or box, ask a few people to subtly spread the word.
- Figuring out your day-after plans: If leaving for your honeymoon, arrange for car service to the airport and bring your luggage/passport. If not, decide where you’re going and how, and park your car at the hotel beforehand or ask a friend to pick you up.
- Bringing the legal documents: Signing your marriage certificate is crucial. Check with your celebrant a few days before the wedding to ensure all legal requirements, like the Notice of Intended Marriage and three marriage certificates for signing, are handled.
- Making and confirming itineraries: Check in with every supplier (limo, linen company, etc.) one week before the wedding. Send out agendas to your bridesmaids and groomsmen so they know the times, especially for photos.
